Sometimes we want someone to listen, a smiling face on the other end of a phone or webcam. This seems to be what ThaiMatches offers its members, with the potential to hit it off and then maybe even to meet up and begin a relationship. Despite its promises to prevent scams, we couldn’t help but feel that ThaiMatches was less a dating site, and more a site to encourage members to buy credits and spend them talking to beautiful women and men. Well, if that’s what you’re looking for, this website will suit you, but if you’re more serious about finding a date (and not paying too much for it) then you might consider looking elsewhere.

The Thai Matches system works like this: you register for free, then browse profiles. If you find someone you like and want to talk to them or watch their videos, you have to purchase credits. Credits aren’t cheap though, and if you’re not careful you might find that you’ve spent quite a lot of money without really having achieved very much. For this reason, and a couple of others, we felt that the site was a little suspect in terms of helping you to find a genuine date, despite their claims.

You might notice that the site gets a very high rating for the quality of the photos. This is completely true, the photos are most often of a very high quality. Even suspiciously so, as though they’ve been taken by professional photographers. A good number of the members also look like models, which is nice for the eyes but less attractive to the serious dater. 

Okay so we’re going to assume that you’re on board with what the site is really about. What are you to expect? Registering is relatively quick but offers nothing exceptional in building your profile, except that you can add a video. This is a nice touch but members have to pay 2 credits to watch a video, which isn’t cheap if you look at the pricing structure for credit purchases.

You can also upload photos, but that’s pretty standard for any dating website. The quality is higher than usual, though, so if you really want to show off what’s on offer, you can do so here. The search facility is pretty good on ThaiMatches.com, offering most of the key choices you’d hope for. However, it is limited in some areas and we’d like to see more in the way of “personality traits”, hobbies, interests and so on, so that searches can be based on your compatibility a little more.

Something we found pretty irksome about this site were the constant pop-ups. Apparently we were irresistible to a dozen or so members, who messaged us about their desires before we’d even had a chance to upload a picture. These chats kept popping up and intruded on the overall experience. They would become very tiresome very quickly. The site is also not exclusively for finding Thai partners, but you will find that the majority of its single members are from Southeast Asia. 

This is a costly website with a fairly low chance of getting an actual date. However, if you want to view and talk to attractive Southeast Asians, and you don’t mind paying a bit extra, this could be the website for you.
