If you’re concerned about the state of your bank account but you also want to find a date online. then you might consider giving FarangDate a try. This website allows you to contact its members for free, including getting involved in online chat rooms. However, despite it being free and doing a reasonable job in some areas, it’s let down by a lack of features, sloppy design and a lack of activity. All of this makes it a bit less likely that you’ll find a date quickly.

This is an international site, so membership does vary depending on the country where you search. You’ll find that most of its female members are from Southeast Asia. In fact, when we searched within the US, with fairly broad parameters, we got no results. Well, either that or the page just didn’t load. That’s another problem with Farang Date, sometimes the pages are a bit skewed, with links or text getting cut off in random places. It doesn’t fill you with confidence. Still, you can send free messages to members, but there are limitations as to how far you can go without paying.

Firstly, it’s worth mentioning that you can send messages every 15 minutes as a free member. That’s right, you have to wait quarter of an hour to send another message. Still, at least they don’t charge. If you want to message more frequently then you have to upgrade to Premium membership. Sadly, when we were trying out the site, we weren’t allowed to upgrade our membership. The site said that payments weren’t currently available but they hope to have them back in the near future. That sounds a bit fraught with danger as it’s either a system malfunction or they’re struggling to keep going. Either way, not a good sign. Apparently, upgrading costs as little as $4, but the site said no more.

Features are limited. You can send email-style messages, as we’ve described, but you can’t talk in a live chat. There are no video options, either. You can, however, send winks and virtual gifts, which cost credits. But then we come to that old bugbear: you can’t make any purchases, so the gift options are useless. Unfortunately, things don’t get much better when you try to access the chat rooms, which were dead when we arrived.

There are a few articles in the blog area of the site, which seemed pretty useful as they included articles on “how to avoid cultural misunderstandings” and “do’s and don’ts for dating Thai girls.” If you’re serious about dating person from Thailand but you don’t know much about the culture then these articles could prove valuable. 

Overall, FarangDate.com is trying, but it’s really not up to par. If they can sort out their site problems, then this could be a decent website, particularly since they allow you to send emails for free. As it is, the site is a bit annoying to use, even though it’s relatively easy to navigate. If you’re low on cash and want to try your luck, especially if you’re interested in a long-term relationship (since the site has a Thai bride section) then it might be worth a shot.
